"Vreemde Vogels"
An homage to the city pigeon in ceramics, raku, and textiles.
"No city without a pigeon."
Once, they were symbols of the spirit. They were vital for spreading news and delivering messages.
In the digital age, their original function has vanished. In dense, built-up cities where the balance with nature is lost, they are considered a nuisance. They originated in the East; Crusaders who had learned of their usefulness brought them back to Europe.
Alongside the pitiful pigeon in the gutter stands the golden pigeon in the loft… worth millions.
A pigeon is like a human: textile pigeons depicting all kinds of character types. In ceramics and raku, the true city pigeon. There are more than a hundred of them; they keep growing in numbers and appearing in various places across the city.
